A West Australian mum has described the moment an explosion left her with severe burns after a suspected firebombing attack.

Penelope Travers, who is originally from New Zealand but has lived in Australia for almost 15 years, spent over two weeks in hospital after her carport was recently set alight.

Writing on a GoFundMe page set up for the now-recovering single mother of two, Ms Travers said her vehicle had been the target of “malicious fire bomb attacks”.

“When I went outside to try and put the fire out, the spray paint cans I had near the vehicle exploded in my face,” she wrote.

“As a result of the explosion I've ended up with burns to 25 per cent of my body including my face, neck, chest and arms.”
