A man is dead and two people have been flown to hospital with serious injuries after a wild brawl broke out in a remote Northern Territory community.

Police say they are investigating the circumstances of the disturbance in Timber Creek, about 300km west of Katherine on Monday night.

They say a large group of people, some armed with “edged weapons”, were fighting along the Victoria Highway about 8.50pm when a man jumped into a car and began driving erratically.

It’s alleged the man then struck and killed a 27-year-old man.

Police said a 16-year-old boy and a 65-year-old women suffered serious injuries after they were attacked with edged weapons.

The pair were flown by CareFlight to the Royal Darwin Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
