A Fort Wayne man Monday was sentenced to 30 years in prison for his part in the death of a 27-year-old man in 2017.
Fargo M. Bennett, 30, was initially charged last year with murder in the death of Jason L. Underwood, who died of gunshot wounds Aug. 13, 2017.
Bennett last month pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, a top-level felony that carries a possible sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison. However, the plea agreement included a fixed sentence of 30 years.
Allen Superior Court Judge David Zent accepted that agreement Monday and dismissed a murder charge and a sentencing enhancement for using a gun. If he was convicted of those two charges, he would have faced up to 85 years in prison.
