A weather alert was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday at 9:38 p.m. for strong thunderstorms until 10:30 p.m. for Tioga and Broome counties.

The storms are anticipated to bring pea-sized hail (0.25 inches) and wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

"At 9:38 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm near Windham, or near Owego, moving southeast at 50 mph," states the weather service. "Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible."

Locations impacted by the alert include Vestal, Endicott, Barton, Rush, Owego, Montrose, Litchfield, Dimock, Harford and Windham.

The weather service comments, "If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building."
