AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Amid the government shutdown, the Salvation Army of Augusta is stepping up to help residents facing food insecurity and other financial challenges.
The organization offers free boxed meals through their Center of Hope soup kitchen at 5:30 p.m. daily, but Derek Dugan, Director of Development for the Salvation Army of Augusta, said they provide assistance beyond just meals.
“We’re there to help everybody with all kinds of emergency services,” Dugan said.
With the government shutdown continuing and SNAP benefits only partly funded, many families are making difficult decisions between spending on food, medicine, utilities or warm clothes as winter approaches. The Salvation Army offers various forms of assistance to help with these needs.
