AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Two candidates are battling for the District 2 Columbia County Commission seat as voters head to the polls Tuesday.

Republican Jim Steed and Democrat Howard Johnson are running to fill the seat vacated by Trey Allen, who left to join the Trump administration. The winner will join fellow commissioners in one of the largest counties in the CSRA.

People have been packing commission meetings lately, opposing a potential data center that would go in Appling. The Columbia County library system becoming its own library board in 2026, has also faced backlash from citizens.
