CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - There is a new proposal on the table that could allow Clarksville Police to test for drugs on the spot during a traffic stop.
Clarksville Metro Council is considering allowing officers to have access to a new handheld device. It takes saliva samples and tests for opiates, marijuana and cocaine.
Here are instructions on how to watch WSMV4 live on various platforms.
The Clarksville Police Department was selected as one of the first 24 agencies in the state to get the equipment at no cost.
Officers would only use the devices after establishing probable cause. The council is set to discuss the proposal during its meeting Thursday.
