PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Nearly 2,800 employees with Arizona Autism are being laid off, sparking concern among families who rely on the organization’s support services for children with developmental disabilities.
The layoffs come as the Arizona Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) faces potential funding cuts .
For January Harrison, a single mother from the Valley, the news hits especially hard. Her 5-year-old son, Jax, was diagnosed with severe autism and ADHD at a young age.
Every day is carefully structured around his needs with help from therapists and respite caregivers who provide essential in-home support.
“Everything has to cater to that child’s needs, and the days are a lot longer,” Harrison said.
