“Rusty’s Dream,” an iconic statue in Palisade that depicts a dog staring up at several fire hydrants, was moved over the weekend as work begins on a new roundabout on Highway Six at the intersection of Elberta Avenue, but don’t worry, the beloved sculpture didn’t go far.
On Saturday morning a crane was out to carefully remove the sculpture, which was created by local artist Lyle Nichols, from its spot in front of Grand Valley Bank and taken just down the road to the Palisade Fire Department, which is on Highway 6 east of the bank.
“Grand Valley Bank donated it to the town,” Town Administrator Janet Hawkinson said. “So we put it over by the Fire Department on Highway 6 so people could see it, which we thought was fitting with the fire hydrants.”
