HONOLULU (Island News) -- After five months of negotiating , Oahu Transit Services (OTS) offered their best and final offer to the Hawaii Teamsters for bus employees.
OTS is the private nonprofit company that operates TheBus system for the City and County of Honolulu. Their offer includes a 16% increase over a four-year period, or a 4% increase each year.
The contract covers over a thousand employees including bus driver, mechanics, and administrative staff. But if they reject the offer, there could be a bus driver strike, which would make things difficult for the regular riders.
“I depend on the bus, on handicapped and on a fixed income,” said bus rider Leo Duwane Johnson. “79, retired, and if we didn't have the bus, it would be major catastrophe.”
