PUPUKEA, Hawaii (Island News) -- Hawaii's winter swells can cause long-term beach loss along the North Shore.
At least three homes have been lost in the last several years due to beach erosion.
Arleen Velasco, a community member, said, "Work with the homeowners, work with the community to make everyone whole. Our ocean whole, and our homeowners whole."
Making everyone whole is the plan.
Hawaii Sea Grant and the North Shore Coastal Resilience Working Group held their first community meeting to discuss the new North Shore Beach management plan.
Andrew Wycklendt from Integral Consulting, Inc., said, "Part of this beach management plan, we're going to be really investigating the different factors that contribute to erosion."
