A Grant Township couple whose house was unlivable and had major issues made the most of unfavorable circumstances — turning it around for the better for firefighters in Mason and Manistee counties with providing them live training opportunities — ultimately better serving residents facing emergency situations.

The property, on Zip Road off of U.S. 31 in Grant Township, was the scene of much activity on Saturday as various fire departments conducted evolutions on the old home of Kevin and Emily Kelly.

The Kelly’s, along with some family and friends, were watching all the progress from a new home they built.
