A murder investigation is underway following the tragic death of a 70-year-old man in Bowthorpe, Norfolk. The victim was discovered with stab wounds at a residential property in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Norfolk Police responded to an emergency call from the ambulance service, which reported a violent incident at the address on Layer Close shortly before 4.45am. Upon arrival, officers found the pensioner, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody. Detective Chief Inspector Kev Barber confirmed that the victim and the suspect were known to each other, stating, "Detectives will be working to establish the full circumstances of what happened this morning. We can confirm those involved are known to one another and there isn’t any wider risk to the public."
Barber expressed condolences, saying, "I understand this news is shocking and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who sadly lost his life." He urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist the investigation.
The police continue to gather evidence and conduct inquiries in the area as they seek to clarify the events leading up to the fatal stabbing.
