Colleges Scotland has warned that eleven colleges could face running out of cash next year if the Scottish Government's "chronic" underfunding continues.
The organisation cautioned that without urgent action from ministers, the country could see "significant job losses" and compulsory redundancies.
Ahead of the Scottish Budget in January, Gavin Donoghue, chief executive of Colleges Scotland, stated that colleges are at a "fork in the road".
He said the organisation's findings mirrored recent reports from the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and Audit Scotland, which underscored the "dire" financial situation facing colleges.
