CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Emergency crews responded to a fire Monday at a restaurant in northeast Cedar Rapids.

Just after 5:30 pm, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department (CRFD) was called to the 2800 block of Blairs Ferry Road NE to deal with smoke from a light fixture inside a restaurant. Firefighters got to the scene to see smoke coming from an outside support pillar.

CRFD opened the pillar and extinguished the embers from a small fire inside. Damage was contained to the exterior of the restaurant. There were five people in the restaurant at the time of the fire but no one was injured.

Area Ambulance Service assisted at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
