The decision comes after the Central Government approved a proposal moved by the state government to rename Islampur as the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) approved the proposal sent by the state government.
According to a gazette notification issued by the General Administration Department on November 3, the Ministry of Home Affairs, through a letter dated the same day, approved the state’s proposal to change the town’s name. The notification stated that the new name Ishwarpur will replace Islampur in all official records, and all departments have been directed to make the necessary changes.
