AIRWAY HEIGHTS, Wash -- An Airway Heights police officer was injured while conducting traffic control Monday night.

According to Chief Brad Richmond, Corporal Mike Ziegler was assisting with traffic control at the intersection of 21st Street and Hayford Road around 8:30 p.m.

Corporal Ziegler was in his patrol car, which was positioned with emergency lights on, when it was hit by another driver who failed to yield.

Corporal Ziegler was then trapped in his vehicle and had to be extricated.

He was taken to the hospital and released to recover at home.

Washington State Patrol is investigating the crash.

According to Chief Richmond, drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
