The Monclova Township trustees said they are walking a tightrope when it comes to addressing a potential data center, preventing annexation, and listening to residents.

It was standing room only at Monday’s trustees meeting, as 75 residents asked their elected officials for more information on a proposed data center — for which there is no application, but is rumored to be planned for 1,000 acres off Black Road.

“There’s no application that has been submitted to Maumee or Monclova,” said Gavin Pike, the township’s fiscal officer. “It is hard to sit here without anything in front of us ... and address all your concerns, which are ‘what ifs.’”

“We don’t even know if we’ve been chosen,” he said. “The day that an application is turned in, is the day the public will know.”
