HALLOCK, Minn. — Brody Scalese was at football practice Monday evening when the field lights flicked on.
The cold, dark November night, penetrated only by the harsh overhead glow, sparked a memory in the Kittson County Central senior.
Three years ago, Scalese was a freshman preparing for the Bearcats' game against Mountain Iron-Buhl in the Minnesota 9-man state tournament quarterfinals.
Kittson County Central went on to lose 42-28. But Scalese still looks back fondly on the nights leading up to state, when he and his teammates would brave the autumn chill, practicing under the lights to keep their postseason dreams alive.
