MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Hunters should be aware of updates to Deer Management Units before the 9-day gun deer season opens Saturday, Nov. 22. It runs through Sunday, Nov. 30, according to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
DMUs in the Northern Forest Management Zones have been converted to habitat-based units rather than county-based units. Forest Zone DMUs are now referred to by a number, and hunters will need to know their DMU name or number when requesting antlerless permits.

This year's gun deer season runs later in the month, similar to 2024. Fewer deer may be on the move relative to years with earlier openers, though colder temperatures and snow cover could create better hunting conditions, according to the DNR.
