A significant police operation is underway at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College in Bristol, leading to the closure of Broomhill Road in both directions. The road is blocked between Emery Road and Dixon Road as officers respond to an ongoing incident that began on Tuesday afternoon. Reports of the road closure emerged around 4.20pm.
Eyewitnesses have reported seeing multiple police vehicles entering and exiting the college campus. The exact nature of the incident remains unclear, but Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that there are no reported injuries.
One parent shared their experience, stating, "My son attends St Brendan’s college. He was told at 3.50pm by a teacher to leave as he did so police were entering the college. There were lots of police dogs in the area too." This indicates a heightened police presence at the scene.
In addition to the college evacuation, the nearby Goals football centre has also been evacuated as a precautionary measure. Traffic monitoring service Inrix has reported that the road closure is causing significant delays, with queueing traffic noted on Broomhill Road.
A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police stated, "Police officers are currently attending an incident at St Brendan’s Sixth Form College on Broomhill Road, Bristol, this afternoon (Tuesday 4 November). As a precaution, the campus has been temporarily evacuated while enquiries are carried out. There are no reports of any injuries, and we are working closely with the college to ensure the safety and wellbeing of students and staff. Broomhill Road is closed at present to allow emergency services to respond safely."
The situation is still developing, and further updates are expected as police continue their investigation.
