ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A judge has ordered polling places in Atlanta to give voters an extra hour for Tuesday’s municipal elections.
Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge ruled that Atlanta’s polling places shall remain open until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, which is an hour later than all other locations statewide.
The judge sided with Atlanta officials, who’d filed a lawsuit against Fulton and DeKalb counties earlier Monday challenging a directive requiring polling locations to close at 7 p.m. on Election Day.
State law allows municipalities with more than 300,000 residents to stay open for an additional hour.
