WASHINGTON — Airspaces in some parts of the country may be forced to close if the continues into next week, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned on Tuesday.

"So, if you bring us to a week from today, Democrats, you will see mass chaos," "You will see mass flight delays. You'll see mass cancellations, and you may see us close certain parts of the airspace, because we cannot manage it because we don't have the air traffic controllers."

His comments came during an unrelated press conference to address a funding shortage for Philadelphia's SEPTA transportation system.

The government shutdown has now dragged on for over a month, with Tuesday officially tying the record for the longest shutdown in U.S. history. The previous record was set during Trump's first presidency.
