MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Humane Society recently has had to set up emergency housing in office spaces after an unexpected surrender of 47 cats and kittens from a single home at the Milwaukee campus.

The organization is currently caring for 1,500 animals, including 1,100 felines, according to Angela Speed, vice president of marketing and communications. That represents about 250 more cats in care on a daily basis compared to 2024.

WHS received 121 cats and kittens as surrenders or strays across its locations Friday, Oct. 31.
