The former Sheraton Crossroads Hotel in Mahwah was reduced to rubble in a spectacular implosion that months later went viral online, thanks to a unique inside look provided by popular YouTuber and engineer Mark Rober.
Rober, known for his elaborate science and engineering videos, collaborated with UniFi to film the May 10 demolition of the 22-story hotel from multiple angles. The video featured drone footage, interior camera placements and a creative twist: a large, functional “Angry Birds” slingshot used to ceremoniously trigger the implosion from a safe distance.
The footage gave viewers a rare glimpse into the precision and planning behind controlled demolitions. Engineers had spent weeks preparing the site, placing explosive charges throughout the structure to ensure a clean collap
