FARGO — A defense attorney's motion to suppress an interview of an attempted murder suspect by Fargo investigators this summer was granted by the court Monday, Nov. 3, after what a Cass County judge called remarkable "honesty and candor" in testimony from one of the officers who conducted the interrogation.

Calvin Phillips, 63, is accused of stabbing a man in downtown Fargo in the early hours of June 8. Officers responded to a call for a stabbing victim just before 3 a.m. that morning. The victim, 59-year-old Marcus Polk, told them a man he did not know had attacked him in Roberts Alley.

Polk then identified friends who were at the scene and might have knowledge of the man, and officers were able to track down Leroy Brackins and Machell Brackins, who eventually identified Phillips as P
