SOUTHAVEN, Miss. - Voters across Mississippi were headed to the polls Tuesday for a special legislative election.

There are more than a dozen elections across the state, with six of them in the FOX13 viewing area and four in DeSoto County alone.

Most of the elections come after a federal court ordered more Black-majority districts in the Mississippi Senate. Lawmakers had to create new boundaries for many districts to comply with the law.

In DeSoto County, that includes District 1 with Hernando. District 2 includes parts of Southaven and Horn Lake, while District 19 includes Olive Branch. It also impacts District 11, which includes rural DeSoto County and Tunica.
