CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland horticulturist Cynthia Druckenbrod summed up the end of the growing season in a recent social media post: “The party’s finally over. Nothing like a few dahlia fireworks to end the season! And what a season it was. Time to put these babies to bed.”

Druckenbrod, a longtime vice president of horticulture at the Cleveland Botanical Garden, now tends a beautiful private garden in Moreland Hills with her husband, Mark. In addition to their expert work in hybridizing daylilies, they also grow about seventy kinds of dahlias, in colors ranging from pale yellow to vibrant magenta and red.
