DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- A driver is in critical condition after their car crashed into a Houston County creek Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred on Highway 231 south, near the nine mile marker, at around 10:00 a.m.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency say a car was traveling north on the highway when it crossed the center line and crashed into a passing truck. The car then drove off the road and overturned in a creek.

According to the Houston County Sheriff's Office, three deputies—Benefield, Gibbs, and Lee —immediately jumped into the water upon arrival at the scene and rescued the trapped driver. Passersbys assisted the three deputies in saving the driver. Reports show a nurse was also on the scene to help.
