SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Greene County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) reports that deputies checked 427 out of 467 sex offenders for Halloween compliance checks last month.

According to a GCSO representative, there were a total of 24 people who were not in compliance.

Five of those 24 people are currently absconders, the representative said.

Detectives are conducting follow-ups in order to present cases to the Greene County Prosecuting Attorney's office, he added.

Several area county law enforcement agencies stepped up their efforts to ensure a safe and fun Halloween for everyone by focusing on compliance with state laws regulating registered sex offenders.

This year marks the second year since a change in the law regarding signage requirements for people on Missouri’s sex offender registry.
