HAMDEN, Conn. — A Meriden man, who was riding a scooter when a vehicle hit him and took off from the scene in Hamden Sunday afternoon, died from his injuries, according to police.
Hamden officers responded to a crash involving a scooter on Mix Avenue, near the south entrance to the Broadmoore Apartments, at 4:38 p.m. Sunday.
Police said they found the man riding the scooter, identified as Shareef Johnson, 34, of Meriden, with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after.
Investigators learned that Johnson was traveling south on Mix Avenue as a vehicle was exiting the Broadmoore Apartments' south entrance. The vehicle veered into Johnson's path and the two collided, police said.
