A railway station and several homes were evacuated this evening (November 4) while bomb disposal units dealt with a 'suspicious' suitcase on a footbridge.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to Greek Street in Stockport, Greater Manchester, with a large cordon put in place affecting nearby Stockport station. Passengers in the travel hub and local residents were forced to leave the area, with some trains cancelled.
One witness said there was "chaos with people running" at the station as some travellers panicked. Train operator Northern issued a 'do not travel' warning on its routes through the station as experts inspected the ominous item left on a bridge.
