BARTONVILLE ( 25News Now ) - An Illinois State Police Trooper is uninjured after an SUV sideswiped the trooper’s patrol vehicle while on a traffic stop.
State Police said the incident, a violation of the Move Over or Scott’s Law, happened around 7:25 p.m. Monday as the trooper was on a traffic stop on the right shoulder of U.S. 24 near Mendenhall Road.
A black Ford Escape allegedly failed to move over, hitting the driver’s side mirror of the patrol vehicle, causing minor damage.
The trooper, outside of the vehicle at the time, reported no injuries.
The black Ford Escape fled. The investigation is ongoing.
State Police said this violation makes 13 Move Over Law-related crashes this year. State Police had 27 crashes in 2024, resulting in 12 injured troopers and one death.
