HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) - Protecting people from scams, that was the goal of a meeting of the Hilton Head Island computer club Tuesday.
A group designed to help people, especially the older generation, understand technology, brought in an expert to their meeting today, South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs Administrator Carolyn Grube Lybarker.
Lybarker talked extensively about how sophisticated some of these criminals have become and how they prey on all ages.
"We definitely have our more mature South Carolinians becoming victims, they lose the most money," Lybarker said. "They don't actually become victims of scams where money is at play as much as are younger South Carolinians.
