COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Colleton County first responders have released new details regarding a fiery head-on collision that claimed the lives of four people and two dogs.
The collision happened Monday evening around 6:36 p.m. when a 2020 Volkswagen Jetta traveling south and a 2004 Dodge Caravan traveling north on Green Pond Highway (SC 303) collided head-on near Simons Acres Lane about four miles south of Walterboro.
Both vehicles caught fire because of the crash, according to Colleton County Fire-Rescue.
Three people were in the Jetta, all of whom were unrestrained, and two were trapped. The male driver of the Caravan was also trapped in the wreckage.
Colleton County Fire-Rescue units responded to the scene about eight minutes later.
