LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - 30-year-old Mitch Brummel was diagnosed in October 2021 with fibrolamellar carcinoma, a very rare and aggressive form of liver cancer.
Born and raised in Rockford, Michigan, Mitch and his wife Abigail made the decision to move to Los Angeles to seek specialized care for his rare form of cancer.
His diagnosis came when he was just 26 years old, turning his life upside down despite being healthy and active.
Doctors immediately performed surgery that removed about 70% of his liver. After that operation, Brummel spent more than three years receiving treatment every other week but for the most part he was able to live a somewhat normal life.
“He was working out, we were going for walks. He ran two half-marathons. So, he was doing pretty good,” said Mitch’s wife Abiga
