KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The community came together one last time to honor Knoxville Police Department Lt. Gordon Gwathney on Nov. 4 at noon. KPD Motors Officers lead a procession from Atchley Funeral Home up Chapman Highway, into the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
Dozens of people lined the road along the procession route to honor Lt. Gwathney before he was laid to rest. They were alongside hundreds of local police officers and the Knoxville Fire Department.
"He got to know us as people," Rashaad Woods said. "Of course, he's going to enforce the law, but he's not always out there to enforce the law, if that makes sense. He's out there as an actual part of the community to speak to us, to talk to us."
