CLEVELAND — What a start!
The opening round of the Ohio high school football playoffs featured plenty of exciting matchups and more than a few upsets — with some big-name programs going down. From WKYC's 17-county viewing area, 69 teams remain in contention for state championships across seven different divisions, and this Friday, the regional favorites (at least on paper) will be joining the party.
In a key change to the format this season, the top four seeds in each region received a bye to the second round. Here in Northeast Ohio, this includes some of the most well-known schools in the area, such as St. Edward, Mentor, Archbishop Hoban, Glenville, and defending state champs like Avon and Indian Valley.
