LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has directed flags in Kentucky to be flown half-staff in honor of a former U.S. vice president.
Former Vice President Dick Cheney died Monday due to complications of pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease, his family announced Tuesday.
Cheney led the armed forces a defense secretary during the Persian Gulf War under President George H.W. Bush and served as George W. Bush’s vice president from 2001 to 2009.
Gov. Andy Beshear did not directly release a statement marking Cheney’s passing but called for flags at all state office buildings to be lowered in his honor and remembrance.
In Beshear’s order, he says flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of Cheney’s burial.
