The Government has confirmed the creation of a new "national forest " in the Oxford-Cambridge corridor, as part of a £1 billion investment in tree planting. In addition to this, a competition will be launched early next year to determine the location of another forest in either the Midlands or the north of England.

This is in line with the Government's manifesto commitment to establish three national forests across the country. The first of these forests was announced in March, extending from the Cotswolds to the Mendips in the west of England.
