JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KY3) - A record-setting government shutdown is just hours away.

On Wednesday, the federal government shutdown will officially be the longest ever. Because of the ongoing federal government shutdown, over 667,000 Missourians did not receive SNAP benefits in November, and 56,000 Missourians who work for the federal government have gone without a paycheck for over a month. Food banks and charities across the state are stepping up to fill in the gaps, but they’re struggling to meet the increased demand.

Work never stops at Powerhouse Community Development in Boone County, especially during a government shutdown. Founder Charles Stephenson is planning how to provide more food for the growing number of people seeking help, as SNAP benefits are in limbo.
