PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — Pensacola Waterfront Mission has opened two new transition recovery program homes for men in an effort to combat the ongoing opioid crisis.

Pensacola Waterfront Mission President Clay Romano knows the need is urgent. The Pensacola Medical Examiner District reports 42-opioid related deaths per 100,000 residents in the last year, doubling the statewide average.

"Unfortunately, we're seeing an uptick in addiction, you know, whether it's from opioids or it's from regular alcohol and other things, so we're just excited that we're able to grow with the issue and hopefully start making a dent in the issue as well."
