SOMERSWORTH — Mayor Matt Gerding beat back a challenge from Kitara Maxey Nov. 4, winning 82.2% of the vote to win a second term as Somersworth's chief executive. He first defeated Maxey in 2023 in a successful campaign to replace longtime Mayor Dana Hilliard.
Outside the city clerk's office, where unofficial results were posted around 7:30 p.m., Gerding reflected on his first term, counting the collaboration between Somersworth, Dover and Rochester to build a new warming center among his successes in office. He won 1,147 votes to Maxey’s 248.
