GRANT COUNTY, Wash. — The Grant County Sheriff's Office (GCSO) said Tuesday that a 54-year-old inmate at the Grant County Jail was found dead.

At 7 a.m. on Tuesday, GCSO says jail staff found the man alone inside a special holding cell, not breathing and with no pulse. The staff began life-saving efforts, but the man was pronounced dead around 7:30 a.m.

Deputies say the man's family was notified around 2:30 p.m. On Thursday, the sheriff's office says the coroner identified the man as Ruben Trevino.

The sheriff's office says Trevino's cause of death was "peritonitis due to a perforated duodenal ulcer," which means an infection in the stomach caused by a hole in the upper part of the small intestine. The coroner said the man's manner of death was natural.
