KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- For the first time in two decades, the Unified Government (UG) of Wyandotte County will see a woman mayor leading the charge throughout the City of Kansas City, Kansas.

Whomever wins the race for KCK mayor will take the place of Mayor Tyrone Garner, who announced in November 2024 that he would not be seeking reelection. This will make either Henry or Watson the first woman in the role since Carol Marinovich, from 1995 to 2005.

Back in the primaries, six candidates vied for the role of KCK mayor and CEO of the UG of Wyandotte County. However, Watson and Henry claimed the majority vote and moved on to the November election.
