MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. (WNDU) - Tom Welborn has called Marshall County home for nearly his entire life, and at 72, he says he’s not going anywhere.
“Next time I move is when they take me out here on a stretcher to a funeral home,” Welborn said.
But Welborn’s battle with Myelodysplastic syndrome, also known as MDS, has become more challenging since his local treatment option disappeared.
“MDS is where my bone marrow isn’t producing healthy platelets,” Welborn said. “And it was causing my platelet count to go way down.”
Welborn says he will have chemotherapy treatments for the rest of his life.
“They can’t put it into remission,” he said. “All they can do is keep it stabilized.”
MHO Plymouth stopped offering infusion chemotherapy treatment on July 3. Welborn had been receiving his chemo
