Authorities said one person died in an incident Tuesday afternoon on the Mackinac Bridge.

A Mackinac County Sheriff's Office spokesperson said a person "took their own life" on the bridge at about 1:10 p.m. He declined to provide details, citing the agency's policy regarding suicides.

The Detroit News is reporting on the incident because it took place in a highly visible, public location.

According to a report by WLUC-TV in Marquette, the person jumped from the bridge and died due to their injuries.
