PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Jill Davidson has won the Democratic primary for the Providence City Council's Ward 2 seat, preliminary results show.

Davidson defeated three other candidates — David Caldwell, Jeff Levy and Matt McDermott — with 50% of the vote.

The East Side council seat opened up earlier this year when incumbent Helen Anthony announced she would step down as she deals with health challenges.

Reclaim RI described Davidson's win as "a major victory for the East Side and for all of Providence."
