(KBTX) - For the first time since 2016, the Texas A&M football team earned a top 4 ranking from the College Football Playoff committee.

In the first playoff rankings of the season released Tuesday, the Aggies came in at No. 3, the highest ranking A&M has ever earned.

It is the 25th time the Aggies have ranked in the playoff rankings, which began in the 2014 season.

No. 1 Ohio State (8-0) and No. 2 Indiana (9-0) sit ahead of the Aggies in Tuesday’s top 25.

With this ranking, the Aggies would earn a first-round bye in the playoff bracket, were the playoffs to start now.
