All of the Detroit City Council incumbents were leading in the races for their seats Tuesday night, while candidates Renata Miller and Denzel McCampbell were ahead in the races for two open seats on the council, according to early results.
All nine Detroit City Council seats were up for reelection, but only five incumbents faced challengers; two seats were open because Council President Mary Sheffield and Councilman Fred Durhal III both ran for mayor. District 1 Councilman James Tate Jr. and District 4 Councilwoman Latisha Johnson ran unopposed and only faced a challenge from any write-in candidates.
